The fate of Palota castle was sealed by the 1702 decree of Leopold I emperor and king, in which he ordered the demolition of the caste in Palota similarly to several other forts in Transdanubia, in order to liquidate the nests of any possible resistance. Execution of the ruler's decree was obstructed by the appeal of the County Assembly and especially by the outbreak of the Rákóczi war of independence
