The Zichys in Palota
The Zichys in (Vár)Palota
1688 István Zichy captain of Vázsony, Crown Guard and Lord Lieutenant of Komárom County took over the castle of Palota and its territory. The two and a half century long role of the Zichy family in Palota started with this occupation.
First of all it was necessary to replace the inhabitants who had fled away.
In order to secure a good labour force they admitted protestant serfs who had been driven away from elsewhere and showed exemplary religious conduct toward their subjects. Naturally, in the meantime they were thoughtful patrons of loyal catholics and the local catholic church.
