1st-4th Century
Route 8 runs along the boundary between regions of different characteristics. Traffic already flowed along this track at the time of the Romans.
The history of Várpalota in the Roman era are recalled by relics from the 1st to 4th century A.D. The most significant of these are the barrage and the mound-tombs.
The history of Várpalota can be well traced from Roman times through relics and from the time of the Hungarian invasion and the kings of the Árpád dynasty through relics and written artefacts. In the late Middle Ages the castle in the main square of the town, that is mostly interwoven with and renown because of the name of Captain György Thuri, played a significant role in the history of the country and of the central part of Transdanubia.
