Nitrogen industry
The history of the Hungarian nitrogen industry is closely associated with the Pét chemical industrial factory. In 1929 the Hungarian government decided to build the "air-saltpetre" factory in Pétfürdő that was needed by the army. Production started in 1932.
Two independent companies were founded:
The Péti Nitrogén Műtrágyagyár (Pét Nitrogen Fertilizer Factory) and the Magyar Ammóniagyárat (Hungarian Ammonium Factory).
The two factories were merged in 1933 under the name Péti Nitrogén Műtrágyagyár (Pét Nitrogen Fertilizer Factory).
