The Franciscan monastery
The monastery was built in 1440 and stood in the south-eastern part of the present Alsóvárosi roman catholic cemetery. Writings describe flourishing monastic life in the monastery.
In the middle ages usually monastic orders operated schools. In monastic and collegiate schools poor children could learn, got food and lodgings free of charge. It can be assumed that there was this kind of school in the Franciscan monastery in Palota.
