Agriculture after 1945

By the time of the 1945 land reform there were no large estates in the traditional sense. The onetime Zichy estates had been broken up. They were partly owned by the Treasury, partly by middleholders.
Expansion of the mine and industry significantly decreased agricultural territory. In 1930 and in 1944 the territory of Várpalota was equally 14084 acres
In 1952 the cooperative was founded with 12 members. In Autumn 1956 the cooperative was dissolved.
On the 14th February 1960 the "Jó Szerencsét" Termelőszövetkezet (Good Luck Cooperative) was formed. Unification of coopertive farms in the Várpalota region started at the beginning of 1968.
Sheep breeding was significant, in 1974 the cooperative had 3000 ewes. Keeping beef cattle was especially profitable. At the Szélhely plant more than 200 polish bulls were fattened on commission.
