Porto Sant'Elpidio - Industry - agriculture |
Industry - agriculture
Its roots go back to the late middle ages. A large agricultural upheaval started in the 16th Century with the export of timber and grain.
Fishing was the primary source of income for the town, then growing vegetables got a role.
In the middle of the 1800s the emphasis shifted to small industry. The first serious machines for shoe producing workshops arrived in the town in the 1950s.
Besides shoe production tourism and catering is also very developed in the settlement.
