There is a 840 bed emergency hospital in the town.
There are 17 kindergartens, 7 primary schools and 4 vocational secondary schools giving training in mining, economics and informatics, 2 trade schools and a technical school.
The Petrosani Mining College was founded in 1948, it is now called Petrosani Technical University.
The town also has a community centre and a theatre.
The Mining Museum founded in 1920 show the beginnings and development of mining at the beginning of the Century.
