 History of the settlement
The first written report of the neighbourhood is from 1493.
In the 16th-17th Century the population of the basin increased and at the beginning of the 17th Century Petrosani village was formed with 233 inhabitants. Real development of the settlement can be thanked to mining. The first geological surveys to map up the regions coal reserves started around 1840. In 1924 Petrosani was declared a town and in 1968 a town of county status.
