 Angling, fishing possibilities
With the exception of settlements on the shore of lake Balaton no other town in Veszprém county can boast of such favourable possibilities for angling. On the southern outskirts of Várpalota there are 500 hectares of mining ponds that offer excellent opportunities for angling. A large part of catch is composed of silver crucian, carp, amur, pike-perch and pike.
In the course of pivatization the ponds became private property. Fishing rights of two ponds the Nagy-Birkás and the Grábler belong to the state.
