History of Várpalota
Our town Várpalota is situated at the meeting point of two regions with conflicting characteristics, the Bakony and the Sárrét. It lies on the gentle southern foothills of the Bakony and the northern boundary of the water corroded plains of the Sárrét. The charming beauty of the oak, beech and pine covered ranges of the Bakony abounding in small and large game and birds, plateaux noteworthy in their barrenness and romantic valleys all recall the one-time world of outlaws.
The terrain south, south-east of the town is just the opposite, beautiful in a different way. It is an area plentiful in water, often marshy that is fed by the Sárvíz.
