Agriculture in the 1990s
In the area agriculture is conducted by 3 joint ventures, 5 private ventures, about 900 farmers and 3 cooperatives. The most significant of the latter is the Palota Vidék Szövetkezet (Palota Region Cooperative).
In the cooperatives and joint ventures of Várpalota its environs we can find cattle, sheep and poultry breeding. Lamb rearing is the most profitable branch of animal farming.
Private entrepreneurs and farmers deal with pigs, sheep, poultry and to a small extent with breeding rabbits. 25-30 families have apiaries.
Two smaller market gardens, an elder-plantation and small producers in four gardening organizations contribute to the town's fruit, vegetable and wine products.
In the Szélhely fodder mixing plant feed is produced from fodder grain.
